Nashik: As preparations intensify for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, authorities in Nashik have announced plans to develop three helipads to enhance mobility and manage the expected surge in pilgrims.
The initiative, led by the state tourism department in coordination with the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority, aims to ease congestion and ensure faster transportation for pilgrims, VIPs, and emergency services during the mega event.
Helipads to Boost Connectivity
According to officials, three locations—two within city limits and one in rural Nashik—have been identified, though final approvals are pending.
The helipads will:
- Facilitate quick movement of pilgrims and dignitaries
- Reduce pressure on road networks during peak bathing days
- Improve emergency response capabilities
Heli-Tourism & Religious Circuits Planned
Authorities are also exploring heli-tourism services, including:
- Helicopter routes connecting Nashik to Trimbakeshwar Temple and other religious sites
- Joyrides for tourists during the Kumbh period
These initiatives aim to enhance the overall pilgrimage experience while promoting religious tourism in the region.
Massive Pilgrim Footfall Expected
The upcoming Kumbh Mela is expected to attract nearly 12 crore devotees, a significant rise from the 2.5 crore pilgrims recorded during the 2015 event.
The most auspicious Amrit Snan dates are scheduled between August and September 2027, when peak crowd movement is anticipated.
Major Infrastructure Upgrades Underway
To support the influx:
- A new terminal at Nashik Airport with capacity for 1,000 passengers is under construction
- The existing terminal handles around 300 passengers
- Investments of ₹600 crore by the state government and ₹600 crore by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited are being made
Developments include:
- A parallel runway
- New aviation equipment
- Enhanced airport infrastructure
Outlook
With large-scale infrastructure projects and innovative mobility solutions like heli-services, Nashik is gearing up to host one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, ensuring smoother logistics and an improved experience for millions of devotees.
