Over 60 Flights Cancelled Across Southeast Asia, Disrupting Regional and Long-Haul Travel

More than 60 flights have been cancelled across Southeast Asia and key Asian aviation hubs, causing significant disruption to both domestic and international travel networks. The cancellations affected airports in Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, highlighting the growing ripple effect across Asia’s interconnected aviation system.

Several major international and regional carriers were involved in the disruptions, including Batik Air, Qatar Airways, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Saudia, United Airlines, Emirates, Firefly, TransNusa, and Etihad Airways.

The cancellations impacted major aviation hubs including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Ngurah Rai International Airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

Batik Air cancelled multiple domestic flights connecting Jakarta with cities such as Yogyakarta, Makassar, Lombok, Medan, Palembang, Surakarta, and Pekanbaru, affecting travel plans for thousands of passengers.

International routes were also hit. Qatar Airways cancelled several Airbus A350 flights from Jakarta to Hamad International Airport in Doha, including services QTR955, QTR957, and QTR959.
Regional connections also experienced interruptions, with TransNusa cancelling flight TNU151 from Jakarta to Singapore and Indonesia AirAsia cancelling flight AWQ264 on the same route.

Bali and Other Indonesian Airports Affected

At Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, a number of long-haul flights to the Middle East were cancelled, further impacting international travellers and tourism traffic.
Other Indonesian airports also experienced disruptions. At Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, Batik Air cancelled flight BTK7514 to Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, while the return service BTK7515 was also cancelled.
Similarly, Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar reported multiple cancellations of Batik Air flights to Jakarta as well as services to Surabaya and Palu.

Impact on Regional Aviation Network

Aviation analysts say the widespread cancellations demonstrate how closely connected Asia’s aviation network has become. When major hubs face disruptions, the effects can quickly spread across regional and long-haul routes, impacting travellers, tourism flows, and airline operations across multiple countries.
Airlines have advised passengers to check the latest flight schedules and contact their carriers or travel agents for updates regarding rebooking or refunds as the situation continues to evolve.
