Macao International Travel Expo 2026 Draws 38,000 Visitors, Seals 79 Deals and 20,000+ Business Matches

Macao, 16 April: The 14th edition of the Macao International Travel Expo (MITE) concluded successfully on April 12, 2026, reaffirming its position as one of Asia’s leading tourism trade platforms. Held under the theme “Global Convergence, Future Horizons,” the three-day event attracted over 38,000 public visitors, bringing together global stakeholders to foster collaboration and innovation across the travel and tourism industry.

Organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office and coordinated by the Macau Travel Agency Association, the Expo was supported by key Chinese authorities including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and other central government offices in Macao.

🌍 Global Participation and Record Scale

This year’s Expo witnessed participation from 730 enterprises and governmental entities across 59 countries and regions, operating a total of 1,517 booths spread across an expansive 30,000 square meter exhibition space. The event featured strong international representation, including exhibitors from Belt and Road countries, Portuguese-speaking nations, and key cities within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

A notable highlight was the presence of 642 hosted buyers, marking a 29% increase year-on-year and the highest since the Expo’s inception. The diversity of participants underscored MITE’s growing influence as a global tourism marketplace.

🤝 Strong Business Outcomes

MITE 2026 delivered significant business results, with 158 enterprises signing 79 contracts, reflecting a 34% increase compared to the previous edition. The agreements spanned multiple strategic areas including:

  • Healthcare and wellness tourism integration
  • Maritime Silk Road initiatives
  • Multi-destination tourism collaboration

Additionally, over 20,000 business matching sessions were conducted both online and offline, representing a 23% growth year-on-year. These sessions played a crucial role in facilitating partnerships, deal-making, and knowledge exchange across markets.

Preliminary survey data from MGTO indicated that more than 80% of exhibitors, buyers, and visitors expressed satisfaction, with strong intent to participate in future editions.

📲 Technology and New Media Drive Engagement

Technology played a central role in enhancing engagement and commercial outcomes at MITE 2026. A network of 23 influencers and key opinion leaders (KOLs) conducted livestream promotions across eight social media and e-commerce platforms.

In a first for the Expo, robots co-hosted livestream sessions alongside influencers, showcasing the integration of “technology + humanity” in tourism promotion. Over the three-day event, 24 livestream sessions generated more than 28 million views, while MGTO’s social media and media partnerships recorded nearly 17 million impressions.

The Expo’s official website also introduced live chat features, further enhancing real-time interaction between exhibitors and potential buyers.

MITE 2026 hosted nearly 130 tourism presentations, forums, and workshops, covering a wide range of topics shaping the future of travel. Key highlights included:

  • Wellness tourism and the “silver economy”
  • Muslim-friendly tourism opportunities
  • Low-altitude cultural tourism development

🍽️ Tourism Meets Gastronomy

The Expo also showcased the growing synergy between tourism and gastronomy through the Asia-Pacific Sustainable Gastronomy Showcase. The event featured coffee competitions, wine tastings, and culinary experiences, alongside the Macao International Tea Culture Carnival 2026, attracting both industry professionals and enthusiasts.

🧭 Expanding Tourism Horizons

A key initiative this year was the “One Expo, Two Destinations” concept, integrating resources between Macao and Hengqin. The Macao-Hengqin Wellness Traveler Forum highlighted opportunities in healthcare tourism, promoting cross-border collaboration and economic diversification.

MITE also organized its first familiarization visit for travel trade representatives from Central Asia, expanding Macao’s global tourism network and outreach into new markets.

Since receiving accreditation from the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) as an “UFI Approved International Event,” MITE has continued to elevate its global standing.
