Andhra Pradesh Seeks ₹430 Crore Tourism Boost, Plans New Projects Under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASAD

1 April, Bengaluru: The Government of Andhra Pradesh is set to strengthen its tourism infrastructure with a major push, as Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh prepares to meet Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to present ongoing and proposed projects.

The state will brief the Centre on tourism projects worth approximately ₹430 crore currently under implementation, while also submitting proposals for nine new initiatives aimed at boosting tourism, cultural heritage, and infrastructure development.

Focus on Key National Schemes

Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) will be presented under flagship schemes such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASAD Scheme. These initiatives focus on developing iconic destinations and strengthening spiritual tourism circuits across the country.

Major Tourism Development Proposals

Among the key proposals:

  • ₹120.04 crore for Vibrant Beach Front development at Machilipatnam under Swadesh Darshan 2.0
  • Development of major temples under PRASAD, including:
    • Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Mangalagiri – ₹95.18 crore
    • Sri Surya Narayana Swamy Temple, Arasavalli – ₹213.72 crore
  • Additional temple infrastructure proposals across Nellore, Korukonda, and Vadapalli

The state is also seeking:

  • ₹103.05 crore for tourism and cultural infrastructure at Lepakshi
  • ₹99.87 crore to enhance tourism experiences at Lambasingi
  • ₹77.32 crore for developing tent cities at key Buddhist tourism sites

Vision for Global Tourism Destinations

The government is also planning to position Tirupati and Visakhapatnam as global tourism hubs, leveraging their religious, cultural, and coastal appeal.

In addition, proposals include setting up a National Institute of Hospitality in Amaravati and a ₹100 crore Integrated Experience, Interpretation and Information Centre (Tourism Bhavan) to enhance visitor engagement and tourism services.

Boosting Cultural Heritage and Infrastructure

The discussions are also expected to cover cultural initiatives, including the reprinting of the classical Telugu lexicon Suryarayandhra Nighantuvu, reflecting the state’s focus on preserving linguistic and cultural heritage alongside tourism growth.

This comprehensive push highlights Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to emerge as a leading tourism destination in India, combining spiritual, cultural, coastal, and experiential tourism offerings.
