Bengaluru, 13 April: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced a 25% reduction in landing and parking charges for domestic airlines, offering significant relief to carriers grappling with rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices.
The directive applies to both major airports regulated by AERA and non-major airports under AAI, and will remain in effect for an initial period of three months. According to government estimates, the move could help airlines save approximately ₹400 crore, easing operational pressures without directly increasing passenger fares.
The aviation sector has been under strain due to volatile global crude oil prices, which have driven up ATF costs — a major component of airline expenses. By reducing airport-related charges, the government aims to maintain affordability and stability in air travel demand.
Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that it provides short-term relief and helps maintain competitiveness in a price-sensitive market like India. The Ministry has also indicated that it will continue to monitor the situation and engage with airlines and airport operators to implement further supportive measures if needed.
