IHCL Signs New SeleQtions Hotel in Digha, Expands Presence in West Bengal

Bengaluru: Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new SeleQtions hotel in Digha, West Bengal, marking a greenfield development that strengthens its footprint in Eastern India.

This new development in Digha is not just about adding another hotel; it signifies a broader vision for West Bengal’s tourism industry. IHCL aims to tap into the burgeoning market of leisure travelers, business visitors, and spiritual tourists flocking to this vibrant region. The influx of tourists can be attributed to the area’s rich cultural heritage, unique local cuisine, and the hospitality traditions that West Bengal is known for.

Digha’s significance in the tourism landscape is underscored by its strategic initiatives to enhance travel experiences. The local government has been working on improving infrastructure, including better roads, enhanced transport services, and upgraded amenities. This makes it easier for tourists to explore not just Digha but also nearby attractions, such as the bustling town of Purulia and the historical sites in Midnapore.

The partnership between IHCL and the Ambuja Neotia Group exemplifies a collaborative approach to developing hospitality in burgeoning tourist hotspots. The Ambuja Neotia Group has a storied history of successful projects in West Bengal, and their expertise in local trends and cultural nuances will be invaluable in shaping the hotel’s offerings to cater to both domestic and international travelers.

The hotel is expected to create over a hundred jobs in the region, benefiting local communities and contributing to the economy. IHCL’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement will be a focus in this project, aligning with global best practices in hospitality development.

For visitors to Digha, the hotel will serve as a gateway to explore the rich biodiversity of the region. Nearby attractions such as the famous Talsari Beach are known for their serene environment and tranquil waters, ideal for water sports and relaxation. Visitors will also enjoy local delicacies, including fresh seafood and traditional Bengali sweets, enhancing their cultural experience during their stay.

As IHCL continues to expand its portfolio, it is also placing a strong emphasis on technology integration in its hotels. From mobile check-ins to smart room features, the SeleQtions Digha will cater to the tech-savvy traveler, ensuring a seamless and modern experience that resonates with the needs of today’s customers.

Furthermore, IHCL’s expansion in West Bengal reflects a larger trend in the hospitality industry, where brands are increasingly focusing on regional diversification. This strategy will not only cater to the growing number of tourists but will also bolster local economies, support small businesses, and promote regional attractions that might otherwise remain under the radar.

Commenting on the development, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, highlighted Digha’s growing importance as both a leisure and spiritual tourism destination. She noted that the destination’s evolving appeal is driving year-round demand and creating new opportunities for hospitality growth. The project also reinforces IHCL’s strategy to expand in emerging tourism markets.

The hotel is being developed in partnership with the Ambuja Neotia Group. Giriraj Damani, WTD, CEO and CFO – Ambuja Neotia Hospitality, expressed confidence that the project will elevate the region’s hospitality infrastructure and bring a premium SeleQtions experience to Digha.

The upcoming SeleQtions Digha will feature 56 rooms and include an all-day dining restaurant, bar, and spacious meeting and event facilities. Guests will also have access to a range of recreational amenities such as a swimming pool, fitness centre, and spa.

Located along the Bay of Bengal, Digha is a popular coastal destination known for its scenic beaches and relaxed atmosphere. Key attractions in the region include New and Old Digha beaches, Talsari Beach, Digha Science Centre, Marine Aquarium & Regional Centre, and Amarabati Park.

With this addition, IHCL will expand its portfolio in West Bengal to 17 hotels, including nine currently under development, further strengthening its presence in the region.
