The United Arab Emirates has introduced a temporary policy allowing expatriate residents who are currently outside the country to return even if their residency visas have expired. The move aims to assist residents affected by recent travel disruptions and operational challenges across regional airspace. The decision was announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, which confirmed that the special measure will remain in effect from February 28 to March 31. Temporary Relief for Residents Abroad Under the new directive, expatriate residents whose UAE residence visas expired while they were outside the country will be permitted to return without the need to obtain a new entry permit before travelling. Authorities said the initiative is intended to support residents who were unable to return to the UAE on time due to exceptional circumstances, including disruptions in international travel. Eligible residents will be allowed to re-enter the UAE during the specified period and complete the required procedures to regularise their residency status once they arrive in the country. Simplifying Travel Procedures Officials explained that the measure aims to reduce administrative hurdles and make travel arrangements easier for residents who remain stranded abroad. By allowing entry without the need for a fresh permit, the authorities hope to streamline the process and facilitate smoother travel for affected expatriates. The temporary policy provides a one-month window for eligible residents to return to the UAE. After arrival, they will be able to complete the necessary documentation and update or restore their residency status through official immigration channels. The initiative reflects the UAE government’s efforts to ensure flexibility and support for residents during a period of regional travel disruption and operational uncertainty.
