Automatic One-Month Visa Extension According to the Ministry of Interior Qatar, travellers whose visas expired or were due to expire as of February 28, 2026, are eligible for an automatic one-month extension. The extension applies across all visa categories, including tourists and business travellers, and is processed electronically without the need for physical documentation or government office visits. Importantly, no additional fees are charged for this extension. Visa-on-Arrival Extension Option Travellers entering Qatar on a 30-day visa-on-arrival can now extend their stay by an additional 30 days. This process can be completed seamlessly via the Metrash2 mobile application, often within minutes. For many nationalities, this extension may be free, provided travellers maintain valid documentation such as return tickets and insurance coverage. Mandatory Health Insurance Requirement A key regulation that remains in place is mandatory health insurance for visitors staying beyond 30 days. Introduced in 2023, the policy requires travellers to obtain coverage from approved providers, typically costing around QAR 50 for a 30-day period. The insurance must cover medical emergencies and remain valid for the entire duration of the stay. However, travellers with international insurance covering Qatar are exempt from purchasing local policies. Part of Broader GCC Travel Reforms Qatar’s updated visa policy aligns with wider reforms across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), where countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman are simplifying visa processes to boost tourism. A significant proposal under consideration is the GCC Grand Tours Visa, which would allow travellers to explore multiple Gulf countries with a single visa for up to 90 days—similar to Europe’s Schengen model.
