Little Andaman Pro 2026 Debuts as India’s Premier Surfing Championship in Andaman Islands

Andaman & Nicobar: The Department of Tourism Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in association with the Surfing Federation of India, is hosting the inaugural Little Andaman Pro 2026, marking the first-ever national-level surfing championship in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Scheduled from April 9–12, 2026, the four-day championship will take place at the scenic Butler Bay Beach, positioning the destination as an emerging hotspot for surfing and adventure tourism in India.

National-Level Competition Debut

Presented by Andaman & Nicobar Tourism, the championship will feature participation from around 86 surfers, including international athletes, competing in the Senior Division across:

  • Men’s Open Surfing Shortboard
  • Women’s Open Surfing Shortboard
  • Men’s Open Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP)
  • Women’s Open Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP)

The event was inaugurated by Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, alongside senior officials and industry representatives.

Boost to India’s Surfing Ecosystem

Speaking on the occasion, Arun Vasu, President of the Surfing Federation of India, said:
“The Little Andaman Pro marks an important milestone for Indian surfing, providing athletes exposure to high-quality reef conditions essential for international-level growth.”

The championship forms part of India’s expanding National Surf Series, offering athletes exposure to technically challenging wave environments beyond mainland beach breaks.

Positioning Andaman as a Surfing Hub

With its consistent swells, pristine waters, and vibrant coral ecosystems, Little Andaman is emerging as a promising destination for global surfing and ocean sports.

A senior official from Andaman & Nicobar Tourism noted:
“This event showcases the natural potential of the islands while promoting sustainable tourism and adventure sports.”

Tourism & Community Impact

Beyond competition, the event aims to:

  • Promote sustainable and eco-friendly tourism
  • Generate local employment and training opportunities
  • Encourage community participation in ocean sports
