IHG expands big in Mexico

IHG Hotels & Resorts Expands Mexico Portfolio with 62 New Hotels in Pipeline

Bengaluru: IHG Hotels & Resorts is accelerating its expansion in Mexico, strengthening its position in one of its top global markets.

The company currently operates 187 hotels with over 30,000 rooms across Mexico and has announced plans to add 62 new properties in the coming years. This expansion highlights IHG’s commitment to tapping into the country’s growing tourism demand and enhancing its presence across key destinations.

Mexico remains a strategic market for IHG, where the company has operated for over five decades since opening its first Holiday Inn in Acapulco in 1970. Today, the brand has a strong footprint across major cities and popular resort destinations.

Diverse Portfolio to Meet Growing Demand

The upcoming hotels will span IHG’s wide range of brands, including luxury, premium, essentials, and extended-stay categories. Brands such as InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, and Staybridge Suites will continue to cater to diverse traveller segments, from luxury seekers to business and long-stay guests.

The expansion will focus on key urban centres as well as major tourism hotspots like Cancun and Los Cabos, which continue to attract millions of international visitors annually.

Boost to Tourism and Economy

IHG’s growth strategy in Mexico aligns with the country’s booming tourism sector, which has seen consistent growth driven by both leisure and business travel. The addition of new hotels is expected to generate employment opportunities, strengthen tourism infrastructure, and support local economies.

In the past five years, IHG has already added more than 6,000 rooms across multiple brands in Mexico. With an additional 8,600 rooms currently under development, the company is set to nearly double its growth pace in the region.

Looking Ahead

With 62 new hotels expected to be added by 2027, IHG aims to further solidify its leadership in Mexico’s hospitality sector. The company’s diverse offerings and strong brand presence position it to meet the evolving needs of global travellers.

As Mexico continues to be a top destination for international tourism, IHG’s expansion underscores confidence in the market’s long-term growth and its importance in the global travel landscape.
